JoyceDeWitt started performing on stage when she was 13. She received a Bachelor of Arts degree at Ball State University. When she performed in her summer stock she was enticed by the director to apply to UCLA's Department of Theater MFA Program. She was granted the Master of Fine Arts Fellowship and the Clifton Webb Scholarship. Dewitt said that she had not met Abe Vigoda during her time at UCLA. DeWitt is most famous for her portrayal of Janet Wood during the 1977-1984 run of the sitcom Three's Company, a job she was offered after being selected for the show's second pilot. Janet was also in an episode of The Ropers that she was in in 1979. DeWitt made her acting debut in an episode of 1984 on Three's Company. The stage was her first time back on stage in the month of June in 1991 when she was a performer in an episode of the Noises Off production in Michigan's Cherry County Playhouse. Also, she performed in Spring Flan, a 1995 TV comedy. Pinky and the Brain featured a character that was modeled after her voice. She was voiced by an actress in 1997. She appeared in an episode Cybill and made a brief appearance on Living Single's final episode. [6] Her 2000s works include television shows like Hope Island, The Nick at Nite Holiday Special and Call of the Wild.
